KARATE TIPS:

Here is the BEST “tip” of them all: TRAIN!

When you train, wear your belt – even if you are at home in just your shorts and tee-shirt. Wearing your belt makes it real. Train EVERY day – even if it is only for 15-20 minutes. It’s the regularity of it that makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE. It keeps you sharp – like a razor blade. This will sound like self-aggrandizement but I DON’T CARE! My GREATEST gains in the last 54 years always came when I trained for long periods BY MYSELF! I did a period of OVER 20 years without a SINGLE DAY MISSED – NOT ONE! And I have the training journals to prove it!

When you train EVERY day by yourself you create a routine of dedication. Seriously, HOW can you NOT become better? You can also “experiment.” This is when you start to evolve. Research the karate term: SHUHARI!

But IF you prefer to be like EVERBODY ELSE then just do what they do – come to organized classes once or twice a week. Do you want to become like every other karateka out there? Or, do you want to become OUTSTANDING? And keep a journal of your progress!

This piece of advice, whether you realize it or not, is the most IMPORTANT information on this entire website!

When you train EVERY day this is what your belt will look like:

When you wear a belt out like that then you KNOW that you deserve a new one! And, quite probably, a new rank. But – a word of WARNING! Let the belt do the work. Do NOT artificially “help it along!” That is easily detected and very much frowned upon. The belt will age itself by fraying through constant tying and rotting through sweat.
