The techniques of karate are many and varied.
We IMPLORE you to UNDERSTAND what your techniques are used for in combat.
Study your kata. Look at what techniques they contain. How may you apply them?
Our deep studies into the SHOTOKAN canon of kata have led us to create quite a number of techniques that may otherwise have never been discovered. We study the kata to find the BUNKAI (see the group discussion on this in the ARTICLES page) and then create the OYO. From this we have created the following techniques:
01 – BEAST MODE – where we follow the attacking patterns and behaviours of certain animals, from the anaconda to the wolf. Here is a brief sample of the swallow. This technique came from the Shotokan kata EMPI. So, too, did the preying mantis.

As I say, “Imagine the beast then become the beast!”
02 – EXCLAMATIONS – This is a pose we adopt prior to any potential threat or danger coming from an aggressive person looking for a fight. From this position we can launch into any of more than 50 lethal hand or fist strikes.
03 – GENERIC ROUNDHOUSE PUNCH COUNTERS – These enable us to defeat any roundhouse (haymaker) punch thrown at us and deliver a devastating counter-attack of our own.
04 – GENERIC WEAPON ATTACKS – No matter what the weapon is (knife, screwdriver, spanner, baton, broken bottle) these generic movements will defeat the opponent before he or she can use their weapon. This, of course, is providing that we can detect that a weapon is about to be used – which is why we train strongly in the concept of ZANSHIN (awareness).
05 – STANDING STRIKES – More than 50 strikes that can be delivered to many vital parts of the opponent’s body. Then there are kicks.
06 – HALO STRIKES – the special “halo” that we use (similar to a Mawashi Uke) allows us to gain access to the vulnerable inside area of our opponent’s stance to hit with a vast array of strikes to many critical targets.
07 – ELBOW ATTACKS – for close-quarter fighting or to extricate ourselves from grappling holds.
08 – COMPOUND STRIKES – rapid-fire strikes in combinations (similar to boxing combinations).
And this is all supplemented with hand-gun disarms, rifle disarms (from close by), taser disarms, a range of kicks and more.
Virtually everything that we do comes from our kata knowledge, one way or another. This is why it is critically important to STUDY YOUR KATA! Almost everything you need to know is stored somewhere inside them, somewhere.
